We went kayaking/canoeing again today. We chose the lake at Greenwood park in Baker, LA. It’s not much of a paddle, but it’s great for beginners. Our Explorer hauls the boats like nothing is there.
The big surprise for me was the mural on one of the buildings.
It seemed the perfect reminder of what this day is about.
We had a nice paddle around the lake and a short trip up the small creek feeding the lake before we came upon a fallen tree blocking the path. It all played well with my goals for the day - a couple of hours with the kids on the water.
We stopped to grab lunch on the way home and a loca sheriff decided to check out the rig. He sat there quite a while which made me rather nervous. The registration on the trailer is current, but the plate doesn’t have the correct sticker. I didn’t want to have to dig out the registration paperwork. Thankfully, he finished admiring the boats and went on his way.
We took everything home and spent some time cleaning up the boats so they can go back home tomorrow. I'm definitely going to borrow them again!

Thanks, but neither the yak nor the canoe are mine. A friend of mine has been bugging everyone he knows to take them out. He had them out maybe six times before he slipped a disc in his back. Now he can't paddle without severe back pain. He's happy to see someone get some enjoyment out of his investment. He's a nice guy.
